Hyperrealism

The absolutely mind blowing drawings, yes you heard me right DRAWINGS of Paul Cadden. Its ridiculous to think anyone could be this talented with just a pencil - amazing.

LFW

 

Of course it's fair to say any girl would love to go down and attend the many glitzy catwalks of London Fashion Week, but if you're Northern Lass like me you have to make do with checking out the photography in many of the glossy fashion magazines. These two minute sketches by Damien Cuypers provide a different take on LFW adding a fun, quirky and vibrant style to the fashionistas of London. I love the quick and simple style of his drawings and the use of a waxy crayon adds a child like vision to a very mature world.

Shepherd's Delight

 

In the post at work we recently received a lovely little illustrated postcard from local illustrator Nick Shepherd. Whilst checking out his other colourful illustrations on his website I came across this one. I especially love this, as like I've mentioned before, I am an avid cat lover but my partner is not  - but if I had my own way I would own nine cats and let them sprawl all over our bed - and he would hate it! I think it captures what our relationship could be like perfectly, maybe this could be another one to hang on our wall?

Pea Green with jealousy

For a long time now me and my sister have talked about getting together to write a children's book. With my sister currently studying a degree in primary school teaching, she has a vast knowledge of what children like and has asked me to create the illustrations - we make the perfect team! I've been researching for a while now, looking at different styles of illustration for some inspiration. Initially I first thought of the most famous childrens book's illustrators, such as Quentin Blake and Maurice Sendak, but it's only when i had a look at an old favourite book from my childhood that I became aware of Kevin Waldron.

I love his simplistic yet very characterful illustrations and the tone of the colours he uses compliment each other to create colourful, but not garish, friendly pictures. The images above are taken from my favorite book 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat' - a book that must have been read to me a million times before. Seeing these lovely illustrations brought the childhood memories of the story flooding back, it's definitely one I am going to have to track down and purchase, not only for the story, but the lovely images too!

Come to life

Recently I stumbled upon the work of Anna Higgie, and I instantly fell in love with it. 

The sketchy look and nude tones remind me of one of my favourite artists, Egon Schiele, but these are in much more detail. They become life like and you can envisage the real person through the warmth and depth the picture's possess. A lot of her illustrations are fashion related, which is probably another reason I admire them so much, she collaborates with many magazines and events including 'Fashion's Night Out' to name just one. To my delight she has a shop on Esty so I will be able to purchase some of her enchanting work - I'll be running out of wall space soon!

Alexa Illustrates

I have always been a fan of Alexa Chung's effortless style and it seems not only can she create visually pleasing outfits, but illustrations too. I love these simple drawings, they are so cute and I like the humorous feel they have to them - they are the type of drawings that make you smile. I am also pleased to hear her new collection for 'Madewell' is now available and I have my eye on her 'eyes eyes eyes pouch'! Roll on pay day!

Sketchy

I used to draw quite often but finding the time to do so these days can be tricky. I take may inspiration from one of my favourite artists Egon Schiele so most of my drawings are of ladies. This is one I did a while ago, it's not quite complete yet (like most of my drawings) and I'm deciding whether to add colour or leave it as it is, if I can I'm going to attempt to complete it so I shall keep you updated on the progress!
